When you are writing Why I learn English, or Why I want to go to Australia/America/France, or Why I want to become a Master Chef/Restaurant Owner/Hotel Manager, you can answer some questions.

When did you first think about your goal?

Who agrees with your goal?

Who doesn't agree with your goal?

What is the first step to your goal?

What is the second step to your goal?

What is the third step to your goal?

What did you do this semester to step toward you goal?

What will you do this summer to move toward your goal?

What will you do next semester to move toward your goal?

Who is helping you get to your goal?

And a wonderful way to help grow your essay is to say something, and then ask yourself "Why?" five times.  Remember this as the Y5X method.

Example:

Say Something:  I decided to become a chef when I was in middle school.
Ask "Why?" first time:  I was watching Pasta on TV and got excited.
Ask "Why?" second time:  The chefs were passionate.
Ask "Why?" third time:  They argued and worked hard and were very proud.
Ask "Why?" fourth time:  They loved to make the very best dishes.
Ask "Why?" fifth time:  They were like artists.
